This article is about nattokinase, another over-the-counter substance that was shown to break down the spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Nattokinase is from natto, a fermented soybean dish popular in Japan.

The authors of the Degradative Effect of Nattokinase on Spike Protein of SARS-CoV-2 are from Josai University in Saitama, Japan. It is peer-reviewed and published in the journal Molecules.

Nattokinase

A bacterium in natto called Bacillus subtilis var. natto produces nattokinase. Nattokinase promotes the dissolution of blood clots by inactivating plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 and increasing fibrinolysis. It has the highest clot-dissolving potency among anticoagulants.

In the study, cells transfected with SARS-CoV-2 spike proteins were incubated with nattokinase. After incubation with nattokinase, the spike proteins were degraded. More importantly, the transfected cells were not damaged.

Uses

These findings are promising not only for the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 but also for Long COVID.

The ability of nattokinase to degrade spike proteins may be helpful to those who have problems after their COVID vaccine. The mRNA in the shots is reverse-transcribed as part of the human DNA.

The spike protein can last in the body for months after the infection and after the shots.

Spike proteins continue to elicit an immune response, which also affects the host. Nattokinase is known to be an effective anticoagulant.

Nattokinase is the second substance I know of that can potentially remove the problematic spike proteins from the body. Yesterday I wrote,

Bromelain and Acetylcysteine Combined Destroy SARS-CoV-2 spike protein

Nattokinase is available on Amazon. The most reviewed, witha  more than four-star rating and priced reasonably, is Doctor’s Best Nattokinase

Nattokinase is anti-atherosclerotic, lipid-lowering, antihypertensive, prevents blood clots, protects the brain, and dissolves fibrin.[2] Thus, it can lower both cardiovascular risk factors and COVID-19 risk.

Research Limitations
The degradative effects of nattokinase on SARS-CoV-2 spike proteins were demonstrated in vitro, meaning inside laboratory conditions. In-vitro results do not automatically translate into clinical effectiveness in humans. More clinical trials are needed to determine dosage, safety, and real-world benefits.

Warning

People who take another blood thinner like warfarin, rivaroxabanapixabanbetrixaban, edoxaban, and dabigatran should not take nattokinase because it can increase the risk of bleeding.

People with new injuries, external or blunt trauma, and head injuries should not take nattokinase due to the risk of bleeding.

Pregnant women should consult their doctors before taking nattokinase. Generally, it is always recommended to talk to your doctor before starting any supplements.

Safety Considerations
Nattokinase has blood-thinning effects. People taking prescription anticoagulants — including warfarin, rivaroxaban, apixaban, edoxaban, betrixaban, or dabigatran — should not use nattokinase due to the risk of bleeding. Individuals with recent trauma, planned surgery, pregnancy, or chronic medical conditions should seek medical advice before supplement use.

Evidence-Based Summary

Early peer-reviewed studies suggest nattokinase can degrade SARS-CoV-2 spike proteins in controlled laboratory settings. These results are scientifically interesting but require human trials before any medical claims can be made. Readers should treat this information as scientific background and consult with healthcare professionals before using it.

  1. My husband had a stroke after being around a person that had just been vaxed. Neither of us are. He is currently on blood thinners, any idea what we can do to remove Spike protein from him?

    1. The combination of Bromelain and N-acetylcysteine was found to degrade spike proteins in laboratory studies. So did nattokinase in two studies. Nattokinase has the added benefit of preventing and dissolving blood clots like blood thinners and decreasing atherosclerosis. However, starting nattokinase when someone is on a blood thinner can increase the risk of bleeding. I have written articles about the healthy effects of nattokinase on blood vessels. Could nattokinase replace blood thinners? Talk to his physicians first before doing so. Intermittent fasting can stimulate the autophagic mechanism in the body that could degrade spike proteins. There are no human studies yet in all of these. Always talk to your physicians before starting any supplements. I hope this helps.

  2. Thank you always for your work! I’m happy to read this article, as I am a natto lover…and have been jabbed…
