Sweden stops recommending COVID-19 vaccination for 12 to 17 years old

Sweden’s Public Health Authority (Folkhälsomyndigheten) has stopped recommending COVID-19 shots to children ages 12 to 17. From their report,

“All in all, we see that the demand for care as a result of the covid-19 has been low, particularly among children and young people during this pandemic, and in addition, has decreased since the virus variant omikron began to spread.

In this phase of the pandemic, we do not see that there is a continued need for the vaccination of this group. Thus, we will remove the recommendation of universal vaccination against covid-19 at the age of 12 to 17 years of age, ” says Martin Andersson, head of the Folkhälsomyndigheten.

Beginning November 1, 2022, only the children of the specific groups of people with increased susceptibility to covid-19 are recommended to have the shots.

In September, Denmark recommends COVID-19 vaccination for those over 50 years only.

Comment:

These recommendations make sense. The majority of children are not vulnerable to severe COVID-19. I have written about them extensively at:
