How effective is quitting smoking?
- The benefits of quitting the cigarette habit are seen within weeks.
- Those who quit for 10 years lower their risk just like a nonsmoker.
- Smokers who are between 25 and 34 years old who quit smoking add 10 years to their life expectancy.
- Those who quit between 45 and 54 years of age prolong their life by as much as 6 years.
- Smoking causes 25% more damage to the blood vessels of women compared to men.
- Quitting smoking lowers the risk of developing lung, head, and neck cancer, emphysema, and asthma. (To name a few)
This article How to Quit Smoking from Help Guide discusses the many strategies you can do to quit smoking. I agree with the recommendations except for the e-cigarettes, which have recently been reported to cause their first death.
