Intermittent Fasting: Now more than ever

I have talked about the benefits of intermittent fasting and the resulting reversal of cardiovascular risk factors like hypertension, diabetes, and hypertriglyceridemia.

The past several months have shown unrelenting food price increases. This resulted from the war in Ukraine, the hyperinflationary policies of the US Federal Reserve, the culling of millions of poultry due to the bird flu, lack of fertilizer and grains for agricultural animals, and the backlog of thousands of container ships at the busiest port in the world in Shanghai.

Prescription medications, including insulin, over-the-counter drugs, and nutritional supplements like vitamins, are also waiting to be loaded in Shanghai. China makes 97% of the drugs that the US needs.

In short, expensive and probably unaffordable food and medication shortages will most likely be present in our future. This is not only for the US but also worldwide.

Many recommend that stocking up on food is the most prudent thing, but that will not address medication shortages if that happens.

Nothing can lower the need for the most common medications for hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, and diabetes other than intermittent fasting.

Successful intermittent fasting decreases weight by burning excess visceral fat and removing inflammation. More than that, intermittent fasting lowers blood pressure, blood sugar, and blood triglycerides.

The result is the extension of food supplies by decreasing caloric needs and decreasing or even stopping medicines for hypertension and diabetes. Imagine if you only have to eat once a day from three times a day. If you are overweight or obese, you may even extend it to one meal every other day.

One person may need two to four antihypertensive prescriptions. And diabetes usually requires one to three. Furthermore, combining IF with exercise can increase HDL to help clean atherosclerosis blood vessels and build muscles.

Imagine the savings on food and medicines that you will get.

The coming months will be hard and challenging for everyone. It will be a significant advantage if you are sufficiently prepared.
