Introduction
The Triglyceride-Glucose Index, also known as the TyG Index, is a simple numerical value derived from your blood tests that may help predict your risk of diseases such as diabetes, heart problems, stroke, and others.
It’s easy to calculate and could be an early warning sign before major health issues develop. I included a Triglyceride Glucose Index calculator in this article.
✅ To make this vital information more accessible, this article includes both English and Filipino audio versions. Whether you prefer listening in English or Tagalog, you can choose the audio that best fits your needs—or share it with loved ones who may benefit from it in either language.

Triglyceride-Glucose (TyG) Index Calculator
Note: There are two commonly used formulas for calculating the TyG index.
- The research formula, used in clinical studies like the one in this article, is:
TyG = ln [(Triglycerides × Glucose) ÷ 2] - Some online tools (e.g., MDApp) use:
TyG = ln(Triglycerides × Glucose) ÷ 2
While both track insulin resistance, they produce slightly different numbers. This article uses the research-based formula about the TyG as a predictor of COVID-19 risk for consistency with peer-reviewed data.
Try it yourself:
The TyG index is calculated using your fasting triglyceride and glucose levels. Use the tool below to apply the formula and see how your own result compares.
