Excess Deaths in a Small Parish

This article shows how excess deaths can be seen at the local level of a parish in western New York.

In the past two years, I suspected excess deaths in my town. Typically, the families of the deceased will give some of the donated flowers to the church after the funeral mass.

My suspicions were aroused when I always saw new flower arrangements when I went to the daily mass.

Yesterday I found an interesting item from the weekly bulletin of our local Roman Catholic church.

The weekly bulletin included a list of parishioners who received the sacraments. It had the number of baptisms, first penance, first Eucharist, confirmations, marriages, and deaths.

When someone is about to be buried or cremated, some families want to have a mass for their deceased. That number is tallied under deaths in the bulletin.

Notable is the increase in the number of deaths from 2019/2020 to 2020/2021 and 2021/2022.

The number of deaths in 2019/2020 when the pandemic started was 43. In 2020/2021, and 2021/2022, it is 69 and 74—a 60% and 70% increase, respectively.

During the same two periods, the number of parishioners increased by only 3% and 7%. Let’s recall what happened in those years. The fiscal year in our parish ends on August 31.

September 1, 2019, to August 31, 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic started in January 2019 with the highly fatal SARS-CoV-2 WA1 strain. This is the period with the highest number of COVID-19 deaths.

 September 1, 2020, to August 31, 2021

There was a 60% increase in deaths during this period.

The Alpha variant and the Delta variant were designated variants of concern (VOC) on Dec 18, 2020. and May 6, 2021, respectively. They peaked two to three months later after their designation as VOCs. Both still have a relatively high fatality rate.

On December 2020, injections for COVID with the Pfizer and Moderna COVID shots were started. They were not approved, only emergency authorized.

September 1, 2021, to August 31, 2022

The deaths are still higher by 70% from when the pandemic started.

In this period, the highly transmissible Omicron variant showed up in November 2021 and continued its dominance. Fortunately, it is far less deadly.

The COVID booster shots were also given on top of the primary shots at this time.

Conclusion

The increased deaths from 2020 to 2022 can no longer be attributed to the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Omicron has a much lower fatality rate. The only thing that is new and persistent are the COVID shots.

This article shows that excess deaths from gene therapy injections marketed as COVID shots can be found locally.

The number I presented is from a small Catholic church, a small fraction of the population. But it gives us an idea of the epidemic of deaths.

There are more out there. Look at the numbers that your churches provide. You may see the excess there too.
