Triglyceride-Glucose (TyG) Index Calculator

Note: There are two commonly used formulas for calculating the TyG index.

  • The research formula used in clinical studies like the one in this article is:
    TyG = ln [(Triglycerides × Glucose) ÷ 2]
  • Some online tools (e.g., MDApp) use:
    TyG = ln(Triglycerides × Glucose) ÷ 2

While both track insulin resistance, they produce slightly different numbers. This article utilizes a research-based formula for the TyG as a predictor of COVID-19 risk, consistent with peer-reviewed data.

Try it yourself:
The TyG index is calculated using your fasting triglycerides and glucose levels. Use the tool below to apply the formula and see how your own result compares.

A TyG index of 9.03 or higher has been linked to a greater risk of severe COVID-19 outcomes, including ICU admission, need for mechanical ventilation, and death.

Use your result as a guide—but always discuss health risks and prevention strategies with your doctor.
