- Those who are having repeated chest pains at rest and with exertion.
- Uncontrolled heart failure
- Heart attack within the past 4 weeks
- Coronary artery bypass graft or percutaneous coronary intervention within 12 months (usually referred to cardiac rehabilitation)
- Abnormal heart rhythms and heart blocks (may need a pacemaker)
- Congenital, ischemic, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy [even in teens], and valvular heart diseases that hinders any exercise
- Uncontrolled blood pressure. >180/110
- Out of control diabetes
- Numbness of the feet (usually from diabetes). May develop an unnoticed injury, and that can become gangrene
- Severe emphysema, chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or other lung diseases
It is important to know that other exercises can still be done like brisk walking. The body has the ability to adapt to physical activity and that is why exercise intensity can be increased with time.
