Excess Deaths on the Philippines in 2021 and 2022

In November 2023, the House of Representatives voted to pass a resolution to investigate 312,000 excess deaths in the Philippines in 2021-2022.

In the video below, Chairman Rep. Dan S. Fernandez expressed shock regarding the number of unexplained excess deaths.

The Department of Health has copies of the statistics and data, and we are shocked that there were 262,000 excess deaths in 2021 alone. And after that, in 2022, there were 67,000 excess deaths. These are all unexplained deaths.

That’s the reason why this committee is Motu proprio investigating this issue.

In law, motu proprio (Latin for “on his own impulse”) describes an official act taken without a formal request from another party.

The table below shows a whopping 42.9 excess crude death rate for 2021. There were an additional 265,493 deaths in 2021 when the COVID-19 shots were started compared to the start of the pandemic in 2020.

Notes:
The crude death rate has been obtained directly from the Philippine Statistics Authority.
For 2005-2019, the excess has been calculated compared with the average death rate for the preceding five years.
For pandemic years (2020, 2021), the death rate is compared with the average death rate in the five years immediately before the pandemic (2015-2019)
YOY means ‘Year on Year’ – i.e., the increase in one year compared to the year before.
